Academic Portraits
Jack typically works from a photograph or a combination of photographs, depending on the circumstance. Here's an overview of his process:
If there is an existing photograph, Jack creates a detailed full-size line drawing of the subject. Once the drawing is approved, he orders the linen and stretcher bars and hand builds the canvas to the size specifications. Then he begins the actual painting.
The drawing phase usually takes 1 to 2 weeks. After that, final approval from the client may take an additional week or longer, depending on any requested adjustments.
The oil painting itself can take anywhere from 2 to 4 months, followed by up to 3 weeks for framing. Jack collaborates with clients on framing decisions and partners with P.S. Art Frames in Rhode Island for this service. He manages the transportation of the painting to the framer and ensures safe delivery to the client.
